Our Environmental Policy

Adamjee Lukmanjee & Sons (Pvt) Ltd is committed to sustainability not only because it aligns with our business values but also because we believe it is crucial for the future of our planet. We strive to minimize our environmental impact by:

Coconut is known as the tree of life, as every part of the coconut tree is used for various purposes, and nothing goes to waste. In our manufacturing operations – we ensure that every by-product produced in the process used in value addition: 

  • The white kernel of the coconut – this is the main input into our manufacturing processes.
  • Coconut Water – this is sold to other companies that process the water for retail consumption.
  • Coconut Shell – The shells are powdered and used in the manufacture of several other products such as tyres and activated carbon.
  • Coconut pairings (the inner skin) – this is sold to local manufacturers of pairing oil.
  • Coconut Flour – processed and exported as a gluten-free wheat flour substitute.
  • Coconut Poonac – this is sold for various uses such as animal feed ingredients.

Energy

Of this we use

  • 84% renewable energy (78% biomass, 6% solar power)
  • 16% non-renewable energy (7% fuels and 9% electricity off the national grid)
  • We have solar power grids at 2 of our locations – in Pannala and Grandpass. Overall, our grid capacity is 520kW, and on average we generate 70 Megawatt hours per month.
  • We use a flash steam collection system in our manufacturing operations in order to reuse the steam generated and reduce our energy consumption.

Wastewater

  • The goal is to reduce water usage in our operations by 1% every year.
  • 100% of the wastewater we generate is treated to the CEA standard in our in-house wastewater treatment facility and then used for washing, irrigation, and such uses.

Waste

  • All waste is segregated in our waste yard facility into hazardous waste, recyclable waste, and other waste.
  • Hazardous waste is disposed by a CEA-licensed hazardous waste handling facility.
  • Recyclable waste is given to recycling centres in the provincial council.

Packaging Materials

  • Wide range of packaging materials used – glass jars, PET bottles, HDPE cans, kraft paper bags, polypropylene bags, and liners. Currently about 80% of our packaging materials are recyclable, and we are making extra efforts to increase this number.
